- How to sue someone in Ontario Small Claims Court (2026)
To sue in Ontario Small Claims Court you send a demand letter, file a Plaintiff’s Claim (Form 7A) in the court office for the area where the dispute happened or the defendant lives, serve it, attend a settlement conference, and go to trial if the case doesn’t settle. Claims can be up to $50,000 and usually must start within two years.
- N4 eviction for non-payment of rent in Ontario: the landlord’s steps
To evict a tenant for unpaid rent in Ontario, a landlord serves a Form N4 notice with a correct arrears amount and termination date, files an L1 application with the Landlord and Tenant Board if the tenant doesn’t pay by that date, and attends a hearing. Only the Sheriff can enforce an eviction order.
- How to fight a traffic ticket in Ontario
In Ontario you have 15 days from the date on a traffic ticket to pay it (pleading guilty), request an early resolution meeting, or request a trial. Requesting a trial lets you see the prosecution’s evidence and often leads to a reduced charge with fewer demerit points.
- Filing a Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario application: deadline and process
You can file an application with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario if you were discriminated against or harassed because of a ground protected by the Ontario Human Rights Code, in employment, housing, services, contracts or vocational associations. You must usually apply within one year of the last incident using Form 1.
- Commissioner of oaths or notary public: which do you need in Ontario?
In Ontario, a commissioner of oaths witnesses affidavits and statutory declarations. A notary public can do the same and can also certify true copies and notarize signatures, which documents used outside Ontario often require. Bring the unsigned document and government photo ID.

What can a licensed paralegal do in Ontario?
Licensed paralegals can represent you in Small Claims Court (claims up to $50,000), at tribunals such as the Landlord and Tenant Board and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and on provincial offences such as traffic tickets. They cannot handle family law, real estate, wills or most criminal charges.
Is a paralegal cheaper than a lawyer?
Usually, yes. We charge one flat fee per service, plus HST: Small Claims Court $2,500, Landlord and Tenant Board $1,200, traffic tickets from $300, Human Rights Tribunal $2,500, and notary services $25 per document.
